Lake Oswego/ West Linn
History Albert Alonzo Durham who built the first industry here, a sawmill on what is now Oswego Creek, founded "Oswego" in 1847. The discovery of iron ore in the area led to the construction of steel mills and the growth of the industry led to a significant population boom. The steel industry gave way to residential development and now Lake Oswego is regarded as one of the most desirable places to live. Its location is convenient to downtown Portland and has great access to I-5 and other freeways, making travel fairly easy. West Linn, originally named "Robins Nest" by its first settler Robert Moore, shared a similar growth pattern. Moore opened up many factories and mills, and was determined to see his new town thrive. The population grew consistently as a result and has grown into a well-established residential community. A terrible fire and flooding damaged much of the town, but the residents didn’t let that stop them. They rebuilt the damaged areas and laid the foundation for the growth of the town. Description Lake Oswego is known for its upscale homes, this area is definitely a place to be if you love the outdoors and gardening. Landscaping is more than just a hobby in this area, and they are very protective of their natural surroundings here. "Live where you play" is one of the mottos here and that attitude seems to run throughout the community. The lake is obviously the biggest feature here, and in the summer its a popular place to cool off. Rowing is very popular on the lake as well. Just on the edge of the suburbs and the country, West Linn is one of the fastest growing regions in Oregon. Maybe it’s the space available, or maybe the surroundings, but it is definitely one of the main areas for building and development. It’s known as the "City of hills, trees and rivers", and offers a range of opportunities for the outdoor enthusiast.
