Tigard/Tualatin

History
This area located about 10 miles southwest of Portland grew as a result of the building of bridges and railroads, which brought work and workers. Logging was a main industry, but the area also brought many entrepreneurs who saw the opportunity to open stores and other various commercial ventures to serve the growing population. As the area continued to draw more residents, the need to establish distinctive communities arose and two cities were born. Tigard was officially incorporated in 1961, while Tualatin was incorporated nearly 50 years earlier in 1913. While distinct cities in their own right, they share many of the same characteristics since they utilize many of the same resources and geography.
